Workplace Health & Wellness Fairs: Promoting Your Wellness Fair
So, now that you have decided what your wellness fair is offering, how do you ensure that staff know about it and show up? The usual tactics involve putting posters up in key areas where people congregate, posting the event notice to the corporate Intranet and/or group calendars, and a general email blast. There are, however, more exciting ways to get people talking about the upcoming event.
Health Passports
Distributing Health Passports before the event can generate interest and buzz, as well as giving employees a preview of the options available to them during the event.
Health Passports are small booklets: part information guide, part scavenger hunt, part quiz and a good way to entice participants to visit the vendor booths. You can create a Health Passport by assembling a health tip sheet, a pull-out list of the vendors/booths and their logos, plus a pull-out list of questions provided by the vendors in advance. (Alternately, you can create your question list, and ensure that each can be answered by one of the vendors.) Provide each vendor with a unique stamp so that they can mark beside their logo to prove that the person has visited that booth.
If you have chosen to have health screening stations as part of your activities, you can also include a section that tracks their results for their personal use. On this page, create an area where they can list alternative/complementary treatments they are taking (including nutritional supplements or herbal remedies), medications, and any other self-care actions they are taking. Let them know that this personal area can be filled out at home and is part of becoming a more active participant in their health care regimen.
Pay Stub Stuffers
In the weeks leading up to the event, ensure that teasers are put in with employees pay stubs. Stuffers are usually 1/3 of an 8.5" x 11" page (3.66" x 8" - either landscape or portrait), but you can also insert bookmarks or business card sized items. Content ideas for teasers include: short quizzes (nutrition, heart health, safety, etc.) and tip sheets. Spread out over a few pay cycles, you have the opportunity to appeal to different deomographic groups by choosing a variety of topics to pique curiosity.
Coordinate this campaign with your participating speakers/exhibitors/vendors by asking for a few questions in advance. They will appreciate being included and the fact that you are interested in ensuring people visit their area.
